💫 Vibe Check!

A HUGE thank you to everyone who came through for last weekend’s Bump & Grind! The vibes were immaculate, the energy was great, and y’all looked good. 💖

This night just keeps getting better.

Another sold-out night in the books—we don’t take that lightly. Your support means everything.

Quick heads up: we’re taking a little break in April as we gear up for our next Bump & Grind in May… and yes, we’ve got a headliner locked in. We’ll be announcing who very soon—and trust, you won’t want to miss this one. 👀

Until then, we’ll keep the newsletters rolling and the R&B flowing.

⏪️ R&B Rewind

Track: “Heard It All Before” – Sunshine Anderson (2001)

Still one of the best R&B anthems of the early 2000s. The bassline knocks, the lyrics bite, and the hook? Timeless.

Did you know?

• The track was produced and written by Mike City, but if you listen closely—that’s Jermaine Dupri on the ad-libs, an uncredited cameo that adds extra bounce.

• Sunshine Anderson was discovered by Macy Gray while in college. Macy passed her demo to a friend at Atlantic Records, and that move led to her first deal.

Kind of makes you wonder—do artists still get discovered like that?

📡 R&B Radar - Glenn Lewis Covers Usher

Grammy-nominated Canadian singer Glenn Lewis just dropped a cover of Usher’sSuperstar” on YouTube—and it’s a flawless reminder of how underrated his voice really is.

It’s the kind of soulful, stripped-back content we wish more artists would put out. Go run it up and show some love.

🗓️ On This Day: March 26th, 2002

Avant dropped his second studio album Ecstasy, featuring slow jam staples like “Makin’ Good Love” and “Don’t Say No, Just Say Yes.” The project peaked at No. 6 on the Billboard 200, cementing his place in early 2000s R&B.

Hard to imagine now, but Ecstasy moved over 713,000 copies, debuted at No. 6 on the Billboard 200, and No. 2 on the R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart.

📉 Numbers like that are rare in today’s streaming era.

🔥 R&B Hot Take - Did Forbes Get It Right?

Forbes just dropped their list of the Top 50 Black Female Vocalists of All Time, and here’s how their Top 10 shakes out:

  • 1. Whitney Houston

  • 2. Aretha Franklin

  • 3. Beyoncé

  • 4. Ella Fitzgerald

  • 5. Nina Simone

  • 6. Etta James

  • 7. Billie Holiday

  • 8. Mariah Carey

  • 9. Tina Turner

  • 10. Patti LaBelle

Some people are raising eyebrows at Beyoncé cracking the Top 3—should she be ranked that high?
